[What are the mechanisms of this association?]
It is now recognized that there is a close relationship
between the mind, our nervous system
and the stomach and the intestine.
Therefore, it was seen very clearly
that what the Anglo-Saxon medical literature
called as psychological distress,
a psychological distress that often results
in a state of anxiety or depression,
has an important influence
on any functions, both on the stomach,
with digestion disorders,
and on the intestine, with abdominal pain
and often an alteration of the bowel.
Furthermore, even the psycho-social problems,
that often are associated with those cases
where there is domestic violence,
have an important influence
on the gastro-intestinal function.
