First of all, the data we have on this research,
a representative survey of the Italian situation, conducted on 1000 men,
tell us that only 39%
of men know about hormonal contraception,
and of these, only half,
so not even 18%,
know how it works.
So, this is the first element of consideration.
Only 22% use
condoms regularly,
they say at least sometimes.
What is the problem?
That if we use condoms,
the only barrier contraceptive,
at least sometimes in only 22% of cases,
we know that we expose the woman
and ourselves, as men,
to the risk of sexually transmitted diseases
and then to unwanted conceptions.
The other interesting fact is that
36%, however, know the patch.
What does this tell us?
That the 39% who knows hormonal contraception,
and talk to the partner about it,
is then updated on new approaches that emerged,
because this was released on March 8, 2005.
The last element, instead very worrying,
is that as much as 91% of men
knows that there is a morning-after pill
and 16% say that they know for sure
that the partner have used it.
So if men are willing
to learn about the new methods available,
when it comes to open the parachute
to avoid conception at the last minute,
perhaps it is essential, even without perhaps,
it is essential that they know more about
preventive contraception, and hormonal contraception,
with regard to women,
and then use frequently,
regularly, constantly, the condom,
because only this will reduce this epidemic
of sexually transmitted diseases,
which is becoming an emergency
also in Italy.
